Abstract

Kemampuan speaking merupakan salah satu keterampilan utama yang harus dikuasai oleh mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Namun, praktik speaking di dalam perkuliahan sering kali terbatas oleh waktu dan jumlah mahasiswa dalam kelas. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan wadah tambahan di luar mata kuliah untuk mendukung pengembangan keterampilan berbicara mahasiswa. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peran Program SEGA (Saturday English Gathering) sebagai wadah praktik speaking bagi mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi kegiatan, dokumentasi, dan wawancara sederhana dengan peserta program. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Program SEGA memberikan ruang praktik speaking yang lebih santai, komunikatif, dan partisipatif. Melalui berbagai aktivitas seperti diskusi, permainan bahasa, dan simulasi percakapan, mahasiswa menjadi lebih percaya diri dan aktif menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Dengan demikian, Program SEGA berperan penting sebagai program pendukung pembelajaran speaking yang melengkapi proses pembelajaran formal di kelas.
